AHL Playoff Preview
Following a Manitoba Moose 4-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters in game 7 of their Division Semifinal series, the Division finals have been set, and they are ready to begin on Wednesday.
North Division Final
Hamilton Bull Dogs Vs Manitoba Moose—Prediction: Hamilton 4-2
The Bull Dogs won the North Division in the AHL regular season, over powering the Moose by four points. The Bull Dogs defeated the Oklahoma City Barons in six games in round-one, while Manitoba won their series in seven games over Lake Eerie. My prediction is Hamilton defeating Manitoba in game 6 of the series. The Bull Dogs have a stronger offense and defense than the Moose, making them the prime choice to win the North Division.
West Division Final
Milwaukee Admirals Vs Houston Aeros—Prediction: Houston 4-3
The Admirals were the top team in the West Division in the regular season, recording 102 points, which were four more than Houston. Milwaukee defeated the Texas Stars in six games in their first-round series, while Houston swept their first-round series in four games with the Peoria RIvermen. Houston out-scored the Admirals in the regular season, but Milwaukee played better defensively. The series will be close, but Houston will win in seven.
Atlantic Division Final
Portland Pirates Vs Binghamton Senators—Prediction: Portland 4-1
Portland won the Atlantic Division in the regular season, while Binghamton was the last-place team in the East Division. The Pirates beat the Connecticut Whale in six games in round-one, while Binghamton was victorious over the Manchester Monarchs in seven games. Portland is the better team all-around, and should defeat the baby Sens’ in five games.
East Division Final
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Vs Charlotte Checkers—Prediction: Checkers 4-3
The Penguins were the top team in the AHL this season, while the Checkers were third-place in the East Division with 97 points—10 less than Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Checkers were the better team offensively, and the Penguins the better team defensively. The Penguins struggled early in their round-one series with the Norfolk Admirals, but rebounded well in the final four games. But, the Checkers are a better team, and if Wilkes-Barre/Scranton falls behind early, they will lose the series in a game 7.
