Huskins Needs Ankle Surgery
Blues D-man Kent Huskins could miss two more months of action after having a screw inserted to repair a fracture in his ankle.
The injury occurred more than two weeks ago against the Calgary Flames as Huskins took a puck off the inside of his left ankle.
The veteran left shot defenseman was thought to be close to returning as he began skating on his own last week. Head Coach Ken Hitchcock indicated this morning that he was still experiencing pain when turning on his skates. Huskins told me last week that skating was actually easier than walking in terms of dealing with the pain.
Initial X-Rays in Calgary showed a fracture before further evaluation back in St. Louis diagnosed a simple bone bruise.
Blues Doctors elected to take another look yesterday and did in fact fine a crack in the bone which required a screw to be inserted.
If anything this opens the door for Ian Cole to enjoy an extended stay with the big club. Newly acquired Kris Russell also plays the left side and will likely take advantage of the Huskins injury.
Ian Cole will not be in the lineup when the Blues take the ice tonight against Detroit.
