Russell Signs in Finland
Blues D-man Kris Russell has agreed to terms with TPS Turku in the Finish Elite league, one of the most successful teams in league history.
Turku has produced several NHl stars including Saku Koivu, Mikko Koivu, Mikka Kiprusoff, Sami Salo, Jere Lehtinen, Antero Nittymaki, and Niko Kapanen.
Russell played 45 games with the Blues last season following an early season trade with Columbus in exchange for Nikita Nikitin. He totaled 12 points between the two clubs while posting a plus-13 in his time with the Blues. He has one year remaining on his NHL contract.
Russell is the latest Blues player to jump overseas joining Roman Polak, Patrik Berglund, Alex Steen, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Chris Stewart who left for Germany yesterday.
T.J Oshie could join Berglund in Sweden but is expected to wait a few weeks before making an official decision.
Alex Pietrangelo skated Monday for the first time since having minor ankle surgery a few weeks ago.
Late last week the Blues laid-off close to an additional 20 employees due to the ongoing NHL lockout. All of the cuts took place on the business side of operations. Those who remain with the club have had their salary reduced as well as shortened work hours.
Peoria officially assigned Vladimir Tarasenko to the KHL on Monday.
