Pietrangelo to Have Minor Ankle Procedure Today
St. Louis Blues D-man Alex Pietrangelo will have surgery today to correct a bura sac issue on his ankle. The soreness is completely unrelated to any prior injury and will take about one week to recover.
Pietrangelo has dealt with both knee and shoulder soreness in the past but appears to be 100% in both of these areas. The 22 year-old has decided to get the ankle fixed now to eliminate any ongoing discomfort moving forward. The procedure is considered very minor and is expected to keep him off the ice for 7-10 days. Pietrangelo is expected to make a full recovery and be 100% even if training camp were to begin on time. The procedure will be done in St. Louis and I'm told takes less than 30 minutes to perform.
The former 4th overall selection was named to the NHL’s 2nd All-Star team last season after recording a career best 51 points, good for fifth among all NHL D-men. He’s the youngest Blues D-man ever to record back to back 40 point seasons.
Pietrangelo has one year remaining on his entry level contract and talks on an extension have yet to begin.
