Perron Still Not Symptom Free

Jun 29

Blues shifty forward David Perron has yet to be cleared to begin training and resume playing NHL hockey. There is no way of suggesting a timetable of when this will change.

Perron is not in the weight room or running on the treadmill. At the very least he'll need to be cleared off- the ice before he gets on the ice and begins hockey related activity.

Perron missed 72 games last season with a concussion.

Oshie Update...
Blues forward T.J. Oshie is back in town training with his teammates but remains unsigned for the upcoming season. It's only a matter of time before a deal gets finalized.

Chris Stewart and Patrik Berglund are also in St. Louis as part of the Blues off-season program.

Best of luck to Blues asst equipment trainer Ray Halle who has left the Blues organization to be closer to his family out East.

More to come,

Being from the Minneapolis area, I've seen what tricky things concussions are with the Twins' Justin Morneau. Some believe they rushed him back too quickly, even though he missed the entire second half of the season. I think his play this year showed that perhaps the Twins cleared him too early.
It is my hope that no one feels the need to rush Perron back into action, especially Perron himself. The Blues desperately need a goal-scorer, but not at a long-term cost to his career and health. I think if St. Louis goes after a sniper in FA, it will alleviate some of that pressure to return.

It's evident that the Blues should pretend that David Perron doesn't even exist at this point and time and look to fill that forward spot.

They have a hard enough time covering four lines in the wake of player injuries without starting the season in the hole.

What really stinks is that Joe Thorton goes to the semi finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs while possibly ending someone's career with a cheap shot to the head.

Ugh-Oh....I'll say it right now. If he's not cleared to even begin working out until say...late July / early August (or later) time-frame....he's definitely not going to be ready coming out of camp. He's simply missed too much time off of the ice and not to mention his conditioning is going to need to be there before they suit him up. I agree that the Blues need to act as if he isn't coming back and fill his spot. Getting Perron healthy again where he can be injected into our lineup would be a huge added bonus at this juncture....but not the expectation.

I'd say it's already too late for him to begin the season. At this point I'm hoping for a december/january comeback.

The blues will be alright without him, but if there are other injuries to top guys, there's gonna be trouble. The way it looks now, we're just going to sign some mid level pieces so hopefully they at least bring in a guy who can score 20 goals. flag this comment
It's obvious that the league isn't serious about eliminating the cheap shots, like the one Thornton delivered to our boy Perron. If they were serious, they'd consider "Once and For All" types of penalties for blind-sided, intentional and uncalled for shots to the head. Solution.......if a player delivers a cheap shot (which Thornton's hit on Perron was cheap), then the player who delivered the cheap shot will miss as much time as the player he injured will miss due to the injury. That means, no Zedeno Chara for Boston's cup run (hit on Montreal's Pacioretty). That means, Matt Cooke, and players of his ilk, would never play in this league again!!! Hell, Marc Savard will probably never play again, or at least to the level that he's accustomed to due to that GOON Cooke. And seriously, if I hear anybody try to explain to me that "Chara isn't KNOWN as a dirty player, so we can just sweep this one under the rug" or "Thornton doesn't have a DIRTY reputation, so it doesn't make sense to make a STAR sit out for that length of time", I'll puke in their face. If this is your thoughts on these types of hits, then you'd fit right in w/ the pu-ba's that currently run this league. It takes one time of losing your cool and respect to destroy a career and it happens every year in this league. Same thing goes for Blues players, do the crime, do the time. It's really that simple and guys in this league would adapt to it QUICKLY!!!!! They'd have no choice. It's time to demand and enforce respectful play. It's the least we should expect from millionaires playing a kids game. In the same way, they should also eliminate the fact that players w/ their backs to the boards are out of play for hits. So, if I'm a D'Man and I'm playing the puck in my own zone, knowing their is a hard, 2-Man forecheck coming, all I have to do is face the boards and I'm safe. BS!!!! That's not how I was taught to play this game. We had our heads up AT ALL TIMES or else you get licked!!! You sometimes have to take a hit to make a play and this rule allows for players to get "lazy" and take the easy way out. This change in the rule would also increase scoring due to offensive zone turnovers. Just my soapbox for now.
