New Era

May 10

St. Louis – The St. Louis Blues have been purchased by an all-local group led by Tom Stillman, previously a minority owner of the club.  The new ownership group includes several prominent business and civic leaders.

“We are honored and humbled to take ownership of the St. Louis Blues,” said Stillman.  “Our new ownership group is 100 percent local, and we are 100 percent committed to the Blues and to St. Louis.  We see the Blues as an important civic institution, and we know what the Blue Note means to this city and to the best fans in the NHL.”

NHL Commissioner Gary B. Bettman, attending today’s announcement, said:  "We are extremely pleased to welcome Tom and his group, who are so devoted to the Blues and to the community. Success on the ice, an outstanding home arena, tremendous fan support and Tom's passionate commitment all point toward an extremely positive future for the franchise."

The purchase, which closed yesterday (May 9), also includes the Scottrade Center lease, the Peoria Rivermen franchise (the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate), and a substantial interest in the Peabody Opera House.

“We are fortunate to be taking over one of the best teams in the NHL, with a strong, mostly young nucleus and a very bright future,” said Stillman.  “Our top priority will be to put a serious contender on the ice year in and year out and to establish the Blues as an elite NHL franchise.”

The Blues just completed the 2011-12 season, in which they compiled 109 points (tied for second in the league), advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and set a number of franchise records.

“We plan to put the franchise on solid financial footing and to make the Blues stable and sustainable, right here in St. Louis, for generations to come,” said Stillman.  “To accomplish that, we will need the support of Blues fans, local businesses large and small, and the rest of the St. Louis community.”

Interesting, Tom Stillman himself stated that priorities are, "to put (and keep) a contender on the ice, and to ensure the financial stability of the organization".

Will this mean that the Blues might be players this off-season? Is a Parise or Suter NOT out of the question?

Andy...was that you who asked a question at the presser?

this article appears to be copied word for word from the blues website with no attribution whatsoever.

knowing andy recently called out a KSDK news reporter for "reporting" on the sale, i find it surprising that andy would consider plagiarism a good means for him to go about "reporting."

That's not a story bud, it's a press release. Completely different than a story published on a news site. The whole point of a press release is to give the press a statement that you want them to publish word for word. Relax. flag this comment

Good news. If they want long term stability, they need long term fans. Investing in equipment for grade schools, middle schools, & high schools (like plastic sticks & pucks for kids to play in gym &/or rollerblades/shinpads/gloves) could go a long way. Utilizing the outdoor roller rinks that are all over the city wouldn't hurt too. STL is not Minnesota, New Hampshire, or Canada where kids grow up watching & playing the sport. They become adults & become season ticket holders. It's time for hockey to evolve from being an angry rich kid sport, which is what it primarily is in STL & most cities in non-northern states/provinces.

The blues are not going to solvent anytime soon. These new "owner" are not going
to lose millions of dollars a year just to satisfy longsuffering blues "fans".
Wake up and smell the reefers you suck up fans.
The blues will only win if the so-called "fans" are willing to pay more for tickets and other money producing products.
There will gnashing and wailing if the blues do not sign a so-called big free agent this year or acquire a big money player in a trade.

so says lone wolf.

I see Danforth is still there pushing this bull shit upon us. Let me feed GMOs to his granchildren and great grandchildren. See if he would allow that!

Seems like a group of people who really give a shit about people. Never would any of them try to make a buck at the cost of other people's lives. Some might not be bad but there are a number of them are pretty sick people who should be in jail rotting.

I think I cannot be a fan.
