Kings, Quick Agree on 10-Year Extension
The Los Angeles Kings have locked up Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Quick to a 10-year contract extension. Sources say the contract exceeds $50 million and is one of the longest contracts ever given to a goaltender.
Quick was sensational in the playoffs and now opens the door for the team to trade former first round pick Jonathan Bernier. Sources confirm Bernier has asked the team to move him to a team where he’d have a chance to play. Kings GM Dean Lombardi told the player he would look to move him once the Quick deal was completed.
I’m sure teams like New Jersey, Chicago, and possibly a Toronto would have interest.
Souray an Option?
Sheldon Souray had a bounce back season a year ago and is eager to get to free agency. He obviously wants a chance to win and sources close to the player tell me a team like St. Louis would be ideal. Whether Doug Armstrong and the Blues agree remains to be seen. Sources say he’s turned down an opportunity to stay in Dallas.
Outside of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise is there anyone more in the drivers seat than Jason Garrison?
Congrats to Bruce Affleck on becoming the next Chief Operating Officer of the St. Louis Blues. I’ll have more on this later.
More to come,
