Elliott Expected to Start Friday
Brian Elliott is expected to start Friday when St. Louis hosts Vancouver. Jaroslav Halak will likely start Saturday in Minnesota. Much of this decision has to do with the fact Elliott shut the Canucks out just eight days ago.
D-man Kent Huskins has not skated since taking a shot off of his foot last Sunday in Edmonton.
Taylor Chorney will make his Blues debut on Friday playing with Roman Polak.
It was good to see Cards ace Chris Carpenter on the ice with the Blues Thursday morning. He along with freshly retired skipper Tony Larussa and trainer Barry Weinberg took in Blues practice. Chris Carpenter participated in a number of drills with the Blues.
Carpenter says he wishes he was good enough to play in the NHL saying it’s a lot more fun to play than professional baseball. He made a strong career choice considering he wouldn’t have made nearly as much money in hockey as he has striking out professional hitters.
Carpenter grew up playing hockey through high school and says he possibly could have played in college. He made a visit to the University of Maine when Paul Kariya was leading the nation in scoring. “They wanted me to play baseball and who knows if they would have allowed me to play hockey as well.”
Carpenter says he watched a lot of hockey playing with the Toronto Blue Jays and in the minors in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Carpenter, Larussa and World Series MVP David Freese will be on the ice prior to Friday’s game with Vancouver.

Before the season, if Blues fans looked at the schedule and saw the Friday/Saturday matchups that we are about to have right now, it would be a no-brainer to start Halak against the Canucks and then possibly give the next to the backup since there are 3 games next week. This team is going to need Halak to have a good season. Blues are going to need him to come up big and teams like Vancouver are the type of teams that he needs to be counted on.
How quickly people forget and flip flop around. Virtually nobody wanted Elliott here, including me. And now all of a sudden after only a handful of games, where several of them the team in front of Halak looked like absolute garbage, nobody wants Halak in net. Well, not me. Because he is a good goaltender. flag this comment
He played well against them last time for one. Two they can be a deadly offensive team. Which goes with Three: Playing Halak against Minnesota has the added benefit of getting his confidence up and also if Elliott does well creates the competition that is the past led to Halak's success.
I am also not sold on Elliott but maybe as a back up he's good. There are some goaltenders who are great back ups and terrible as your number one.

If Halak is playing, I hope he does well.
I am not looking negatively at the situation. I want both goalies to play well, but I still think Halak is going to be the starter and will get going again. And I think Halak would be the better choice for playing tonight. Just my opinion. flag this comment
